I think I’ve told you already – The guys at Liine (The compay behind Griid & Kapture) are some crazy people. And I say that in a good way.
They’ve built another iPhone / iPad. This one’s a bit different from the usual stuff, it’s an app that allows you to experience music in a completely new way. Instead of being recorded and rigid, the music is delivered in parts alongside all the tools needed to put it back together or to recombine it in a completely new way. If I’d have to put this in one word, I guess it will be REMIX. – Now that I think about it for a bit, it’s actually the name of the app, hahaha!
I’m not going to do a review, as I don’t have an iPhone (HTC user here!), so instead of trying to get something out of the different pictures I’ve seen on the internet, I’m going to post the description, and the creators wrote it. So here it is…
“With this first in the Remiix series, Richie Hawtin offers loops and parts from classic Plastikman tracks, from remixes specially commissioned for Replikants (part of the extensive Arkives package) as well as bits and pieces discovered in the hidden depths of his studio. This is a unique opportunity to combine things that were never intended to be combined and to twist things into even deeper, darker, stranger places.
Be Creative & Forget The Rules
Trigger clips on Remiix’s Reels to launch loops in tight sync. Swap a Reel in the Musik library to quickly bring in sounds from any another song. Be creative and forget the rules – the unique matrix-balanced mastering process means that whatever you do, it will always sound like it’s straight off a record. Mix Spastik’s devastating snares into Gak’s sub-bass rumble then add just a touch of Mind In Rewind’s disembodied vocal to tip people over the edge.
As well as giving access to the loops themselves, Remiix apps allow you to mix the material as you wish, and apply EQ and special effects tailored to the artist in question. For Plastikman you have access to Richie Hawtin’s signature disorientating reverbs and twisted, pitched tape delays. Remiix apps use professional grade effects and the macro-controls allow a huge range of expression with one simple gesture. Use them to add subtle flavour or completely transform the mix.”
Each Remiix Kit is tied together with a themed interface created especially for that artist, which means that now you’re interacting with the cover-art itself. If you want to learn more about the artist, just go to the in-app info page.
Remiix: Plastikman Replikants will whet appetites for the Arkives box-set (available for pre-order on http://www.plastikman.com/arkives/), as well as give insight into the future of interactive music and of Remiix.
