As you’ve probably noticed by now, if it’s weekend, I’ll post some inspirational pieces of music for you to enjoy, and help boost the creativity.
This weekend is no different. Here’s a wonderful piece by Bach which i heard while watching (again!) the movie “Silence Of The Lambs.” This composition is so amazing, I just had to share it with you! I Hope you’ll enjoy it, I know i did!
“Air on the G String” is the “Air” from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068. The original orchestral suite was written by Bach for his patron Prince Leopold of Anhalt sometime between the years 1717 and 1723.
The title comes from violinist Wilhelmj’s late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano.
And here’s an interesting fact: By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major and transposing the melody down an octave, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string.
The “Air” on the G String was the very first work by Bach to be recorded. This was done by the Russian cellist Aleksandr Verzhbilovich and an unnamed pianist, in 1902 (as the “Air” from the Ouverture No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068).
By the way, I saw a little comment on YouTube, while writing this article, that goes like this:
“I’m happy we live in this time, back in the days this music was made for the first time only a select few had the opportunity to listen to it, now we can all enjoy this little piece of heaven…“
I just have to agree with that. Do you?
